Time for Some Work Life Balance

The answer is to the above question is…

No…that is so not deductible. As an added bonus, the IRS will revoke your passport if you owe more than $50,000.

Now that this filing season has come to a close for businesses and individuals, it’s time for me to take a well-deserved vacation.

That’s right — I am going on a two-week vacation. On the bright side, my team will continue to be available to answer any questions you have while I take some time away from the computer to sightsee overseas.

For situations that are not time-sensitive and that require my direct response, please feel free to contact me or schedule an appointment. I will be able to get back to you after my vacation.

See you soon!

TL;DR: Accounting is Closed for Labor Day

In recognition of Labor Day, TL;DR: Accounting will be closed this Monday.

TL;DR is a supporter of a healthy work/life balance, which means taking time away from work during holidays and downtime. Our staff is also given the freedom to work around their personal schedules in a manner that works best for them.

Over the past week, our staff has worked exceptionally hard to ensure all work is completed on a timely basis, but that also means that, this weekend, our time away from work is precisely that.

Over the next three or four days, some of our crew will be attending PAX West in Seattle. Others will be enjoying their long weekend at Bumbershoot, and others still will be sending off summer with family BBQs.

We wish everyone a happy Labor Day weekend and hope you, too, are able to enjoy some hard-earned time off from work.

TL;DR: We are AFK this weekend.

Team Member Spotlight: Tanya Schoen

Tanya Schoen is an accountant with over 20 years of experience in the accounting field. She’s an integral part of the TL;DR: Accounting team and we’re happy for the opportunity to introduce her to you!

Why did you decide to become an accountant?
I like the organizational, financial and problem-solving aspect of the discipline.

When were you hired for TL;DR?
I was hired in March 2018.

What made you decide to want to work for TL;DR?
I appreciated the professionalism and assistance as a customer of TL;DR.

What do you enjoy most about TL;DR?
I enjoy working on multiple customers’ books and familiarizing myself with each of their nuances. I also like learning new financial processes to keep our customers’ books/taxes clean and orderly.

What is a typical work day like for you?
A typical day is making sure all jobs/tasks are completed on-time for each customer — maintaining their bookkeeping as prescribed.

What is your favorite tip for small business owners?
If you procrastinate on your business’s bookkeeping or dread the thought of it, hire someone who will make it a top priority.

How do you stay informed about developments and changes in the accounting world?
This is something I need to make time for outside of taking classes.

What is your biggest achievement to date — personal or professional?
That I have worked in the field consistently for over 20 years and still love it! I am also recently QuickBooks Pro certified!

What do you do outside of work?
I take care of my family — including two teenagers — and love needle arts like knitting/crocheting, reading, and cooking new recipes. I host a Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Group twice a month in our home.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
Elizabeth Bennett, a strong woman who knows her mind and gets the guy in the end!

Do you have any advice for those interested in entering the accounting field?
If you have borderline OCD in your DNA and like to work with numbers and like continued learning, this is the field for you! Take Accounting classes!
