Team member spotlight: Nicole Piele, EA

Nicole Piele Headshot_TLDR Accounting

Today we want to introduce Nicole Piele, a Tax and Accounting Specialist, that has joined our team. Nicole is an Enrolled Agent and will be helping our clients with accounting and taxes.

Why did you decide to become an accountant?

I am a science and numbers person and accounting allowed me to use the organization and math needed in both those fields in one career. I love the challenges that come from digging into the imbalances and the success in figuring out why.

When were you hired for TL;DR?

I was hired in October of 2020.

What made you decide to want to work for TL;DR?

I have worked remotely for the past 5 years but missed being part of a team. When I saw the job listing, I was excited to apply and get back the collaboration part of remote work that I missed.

What do you enjoy most about TL;DR?

Aside from being able to work from almost anywhere, I will enjoy the challenges that come from learning the new dynamics of the position as well as the inner workings of the team.

What is a typical work day like for you?

I like my routines. I have a morning routine (walk the dog, make coffee…) and an evening routine to wind back down. My midday is alway flexible and changing depending on client needs and meetings scheduled.

What is your favorite tip for small business owners?

Do what you do best: run your business. If the financial aspect of running a small business is not something that a business owner enjoys, it will get pushed aside until the cleanup becomes overwhelming.

How do you stay informed about developments and changes in the accounting world?

I subscribe to several email lists and newsletters and stay up-to-date on tax changes by taking advantage of continuing education and online webinars.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

Personally: I have raised 4 kids to be productive, caring humans. Professionally: I worked remote while traveling to 22 countries in one year and did not miss a single deadline.

What do you do outside of work?

I love to garden and prefer a back-to-basics sort of life at home. Since work is high on the tech-use scale, at home, I prefer to be the opposite. I like cooking from scratch, baking, reading, and anything I can DIY. We spend a lot of time hiking in summer and we try to get a trip or two in before tax season kicks in.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

Merida from Brave. She is Scottish! Scotland and Ireland are my favorite places to travel to. Plus, she is good with a bow and arrow.

Do you have any advice for those interested in entering the accounting field?

Pay attention to details, don’t be afraid of new technology, and keep on continuing your education. There is alway something new to learn, changes to follow, and rules that change. Falling behind can be stressful.

We welcome Nicole to the TL;DR: Accounting team!

Khaled - TLDR

Khaled Albadawi, CPA

Principal & CEO

Khaled joined TL;DR as Principal in December of 2022, and has quickly hit the ground running offering a fresh new perspective for the TL;DR team and clients. He’s a natural entrepreneur & leader, starting his days at 4 AM with a nice cup of coffee to get a jumpstart on projects before the business world wakes up. His one piece of advice to business owners? Ask yourself if you are creating just another job or a business. Ideally, you should be building something that doesn’t require you to be there 40 hours a week!
