Updates: Tax payments are Extended

Update to yesterdays information

Guidance has been issued today on an extension for the date you need to PAY your taxes until July 15th. This is for tax payments for 2019 along with Q1 2020 estimated tax payments due 4/15/2020. A link to the guidance is here.

This is not an automatic extension for your tax filing, only the payment of taxes.

What does this change?

You have more time to pay your taxes. We still need to file your taxes by 4/15/2020 or file an extension. We are working on extensions this week for folks who got us your information starting on the 7th.

If we have already filed your taxes and you want to delay your scheduled payment from being withdrawn on 4/15/2020:

  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

We cannot cancel these payments for you. You do not want to forget to reschedule the payment after cancelling, nonpayment will result in fines and penalties. You will need to make the payment by 7/15/2020. If you can still pay on 4/15/2020 I would encourage you to pay at that time.

You can make a payment for your 2019 taxes online at www.irs.gov/directpay

If you have not signed your return yet but have it for review, and wish to reschedule your payment, DO NOT SIGN and email us. We will update your return and resend it for signatures. If your return is already signed, changes cannot be made and you will need to call.

Stay safe and healthy,
