Here are the questions we get asked most often before someone signs up. If yours isn’t here, book an introductory call and ask us directly. We don’t charge for the conversation.
How much does it cost to work with TL;DR?
Monthly accounting for an LLC, PLLC, or sole proprietor starts at $199 a month. For an S corporation it starts at $349 a month. Partnerships and C corporations get a custom package built around what the business actually needs.
Every plan is flat fee. You’ll know the exact price before any work starts. The full feature comparison is on our pricing page.
Are there any upfront fees?
No. There’s no setup fee and no deposit before we begin.
We also don’t bill by the hour, and we don’t charge you for phone calls or emails. We’d rather tell you what the service costs and then stay available, than watch the clock every time you have a question.
How often can I get in touch with you?
As often as you need. Unlimited questions throughout the year are included in every monthly plan, and that’s year round, not just from January to April.
You’ll always be talking to a person on our team, not a ticket queue.
What if my books are messy or out of date?
That’s a normal place to start, and it’s worth saying out loud that most practices we take on aren’t starting from a clean set of books.
The first step is a call where we look at what you’ve actually got and tell you what it will take to get current. Monthly bookkeeping is included in every plan from there, so the cleanup is a one time problem rather than a recurring one. You can read more about how we handle the ongoing work on our bookkeeping for therapists page.
Do you only work with therapists?
Therapists in private practice are who we know best, and most of our clients are group and solo practice owners.
We also work with other small business owners and with tech employees who have equity compensation to think about. If you’re not sure whether you’re a fit, ask us on a call.
Should my practice be a PLLC or an S corp?
It depends on how much the practice earns, how you pay yourself, and what you want the next few years to look like. There isn’t a single answer that’s right for every practice, and choosing the wrong structure costs real money in both directions.
We built a S corp vs PLLC calculator so you can see roughly where you land before you talk to anyone. Bring the result to a call and we’ll walk through it with you.
Where are you located, and do we have to meet in person?
We’re a remote firm, so no. We work with clients by phone, email, and video calls on Google Meet or Zoom, whichever suits you.
Being remote means we pick your team for what your practice needs rather than for who happens to be nearby.
Who will actually be doing my work?
Every client is assigned a team rather than a single point of contact, so there’s always someone who knows your file available when you need something.
You can see who’s on the team, and what each person’s credentials are, on our meet the team page.
Is a QuickBooks subscription included?
Yes. A QuickBooks subscription is included with our monthly accounting plans, so it isn’t a separate bill you have to manage on top of ours.
What happens if I get a notice from the IRS?
IRS notice monitoring is part of the monthly plans, so a letter arriving doesn’t mean you’re on your own with it. Send it to us and we’ll tell you what it is and what needs to happen next.
If you want to understand what the notice itself says, the IRS publishes a plain explanation of every notice number it sends.
How do I get started?
It starts with a call. We’ll ask what you need help with, tell you which plan fits, and give you the exact price before you commit to anything.
