How To Keep Your Taxes and Accounting Simple

Your First Year (In Private Practice)

It all started with a single therapist who came to me and started asking all sorts of questions about bookkeeping and taxes. She wanted to start her own practice, but grad school didn’t cover the part about actually running her business: things like keeping track of expenses, how to do her taxes, and identifying tax deductions. She needed help, so she came to me to ask these questions, and then started recommending me to her fellow therapists and friends.

Are you Janet?

Let’s talk about Janet!

Many therapists who run their own practices share similar financial situations, goals, and plans. Janet is one such therapist who took the reins of her practice’s finances to more easily achieve her goals in a consistent manner and defined timeframe.

Each month Janet works down through the Cheatsheet, updating her income and expenses. She then transfers a specific amount of money to her savings account to cover taxes, save for retirement, and build her savings. She can see how much money she is earning and can compare that to her goal for the year. Based on the data in front of her, she can see she is on track to hit her salary goal for the year, even as she saves for retirement. And thanks to Janet’s careful planning, she can even take a two-week vacation without affecting her finances.

“I knew I needed accounting, tax, and bookkeeping skills in starting my private practice, and TLDR’s focus on therapists convinced me this was the right product for me. The videos, Q&A, cheat sheet, and Excel sheets were so helpful. Toni breaks things down in a way that is stress-free and saves me lots of time. Now I have the tools I need to successfully manage my business independently.
